32ND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME B

GIVE ALL… TRUST GOD

Mk 12:38-44 or 12:41-44

MESSAGE

I once spoke with a priest-friend who often felt anxious about funding his church projects. I helped him realize that throughout his life, he had never needed to rely on his own financial resources. While he was the visionary behind these initiatives, it was ultimately God who provided the means to bring them to fruition. As long as his focus remained on the Lord and His Kingdom, he had no reason to fear a lack of resources.

Another friend of mine became so preoccupied with securing his future that he fixated on accumulating wealth. Ironically, this constant striving only deepened his feelings of inadequacy and lack.

The Gospel teaches us that what truly pleases the Lord is a heart willing to give selflessly—to the poor, to the community, to those in need. Jesus highlights this through the story of the poor widow who gave all she had to the temple. He commended her not just for her generosity, but for her unwavering trust. Though the story doesn’t detail the widow’s outcome, I believe that her willingness to give opened the door to blessings beyond her expectations; she likely found sustenance for herself and her family.

Giving, sharing, and helping others isn’t merely an act of charity; it’s fundamentally an expression of trust.

REFLECT

In these challenging times, it’s natural to seek security and comfort through material possessions. We shouldn’t feel guilty for our anxieties or our desire to protect ourselves. Instead, let’s pray for the grace to rise above these fears, enabling us to give from our hearts, even when it feels difficult. Jesus sees our trust and promises to reward us with blessings that surpass our expectations.
